We are saddened to inform all our readers that Sam Burrage, the first black reporter of WPSD TV, passed away recently. The news of his death spread like a fire on social media platforms because he was a very popular reporter in Paducah.  So many big celebs paid tributes and lament at the news. No doubt Sam was more than a reporter for his fan following. He was also the source of inspiration for all those emerging black reporters who face difficulties while pursuing their dreams. We share our sincere condolence with the family members.

Sam Burrage Death

Sam Burrage died at the age of 75. He was a veteran reporter in WPSD  and achieved so much in his life. During his career, he went through so many difficult phases of life. But the thing that brought her to the amazing success is his consistency and unbreakable hope.

The death of Sam Burrage well known for his segment People Beat and Burrage’s Bag is a big shock to everyone. We pray that his soul rests in peace. No words can define the loss of his life. So many people share their heart content on social media related to the death of legend Sam

“Today we lost of the best storytellers I’ve ever worked with. Sam Burrage. I watched him as a kid, and later worked with him at WPSD.
Fun fact, Sam and I went to jail together! We didn’t even have to get arrested. Back in my news photographer days, I was assigned to help Sam with his story of the day. I asked Sam where we were going, and he said, “We’re going to jail!” Then he chuckled. I was scared.
Sam and I went over to the McCracken County Jail, and they locked us inside with the inmates. We were there to cover the inmates vs. cops basketball game. Sam treated everyone the same, he was able to draw out several good stories, some sad from those who were there. It turned out to be a good basketball game. The officers invited us to stay for lunch, so we stayed for some grilled burgers prepared by both officers and inmates. Sam just chatted and traded stories with everyone there. I guess you could say I had fun in jail. I wasn’t scared anymore. That being said, I’d rather not go back.
He turned the piece into a really neat story because it’s not every day you would see something like that happen.

Kevin Hunsperger Wrote  “Sad news to share today. Sam Burrage, a former reporter at WPSD-TV in Paducah, has died. I never met Mr. Burrage, but I remember watching his feature “Burrage’s Bag” when I was a Southeast Missouri State University student. Those who knew him speak very highly of him. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, Mr. Burrage.”

One Sam supporter wrote on twitter: “Sam will be missed by many. Sam Burrage is a legend in the Paducah area. I was lucky enough to not only grow up watching him on TV, but I got to work with him and become friends. We traveled all over the 4-state region together for Burrage’s Bag. We had thought-provoking conversations that would last hours in the car. Many people don’t know he was very much an introvert, but he knew how to turn on the charm for his job. I thought a lot of Sam and have many good memories of him. Rest In Peace, friend.”

Sam Burrage had a propensity towards journalism from his early days. He completed his journalism at Columbia University In 1971. And started to shape his career by working in WPSD TV in the 1960s. In his long successful career, he got so much recognition. He was well known for his amazing storytelling techniques.  Local 6 area was the opportunity for him where he represents his skill in his segments “People Beat,” and “Burrage’s Bag”.
