“COLUMBIA RESIDENT CHARGED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION”
COLUMBIA, IL August 20, 2021 – Today, Monroe County State’s Attorney Lucas Liefer issued an arrest warrant for Columbia resident Andrew W. Thompson (29 years old). The arrest warrant was for Unauthorized Video Recording (720 ILCS 5/26-4). Thompson’s bond was set at $50,000 (10% applies).”
“The Charge resulted from an investigation initiated by the Columbia Police Department which began Wednesday, August 18, 2021, after a concerned citizen contacted CPD. Detectives have been diligently working on the investigation since the report was made. Due to Thompson’s position as a teacher with Columbia Unit School District #4, CPD immediately notified District #4, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. It is believed the event occurred at Thompson’s Columbia residence in April of 2021.”
“Although Thompson has been charged, the Columbia Police Department’s investigation continues. At this time, it is not believed any video recording was conducted on school property, nor were any juveniles involved. Thompson is currently in custody, and being held at the Monroe County Jail. Members of the public are reminded that this arrest and complaint contain only charges and are not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
