Godfrey Mahlatsi was HOD for the Free State Health Department. He was also former Chief Executive Officer of Free State Provincial Treasury. He had also worked as Municipal manager for more than 3 years in Ngwathe Local Municipality. Why was Godfrey Mahlatsi Arrested?
During the regulatory audit at the Health Department in Bloemfontein, the team of officers asked about certain suspicious transactions to the service providers. when the officer did not satisfied with the response given by the Mahlatsi, an internal and thorough investigation was initiated. Later on, the probe came to the conclusion that fraudulent payments were made between January 2011 to the month of December 2015.
“Mahlatsi is facing 44 counts of Contravention of the PFMA for his failure to ensure or prevent unauthorized, irregular and or fruitless and wasteful expenditure to the amount of R8,7m which was paid by the department for services that were not rendered during the time he was the accounting officer of the department. “
On 11 February sources confirmed that he handed himself to the police department. And further got bailed when showed to Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for R5000.
He was charged with false transactions with 16 others in the last year. Apart from him, Dr. David Motau, David Motau, Sarah Legobate, Gloria Gogo, John Chakane, Limakatso Mabitle, Hazel Ncukana, Colleen Kala, Jack Letlojane, Thabo Moeti, Victor Kwababa, Simon Njonga, Lebohang Beqezi, and Charity Moloi name were also included in the list of these people.
