Lucky Phil lambert’s Death news was confirmed on social media by the official announcement of GTV9. In a note to staff, Managing Director of Nine Melbourne Matt James acknowledged the significant contribution Lambert had made at the network.
It is with great sadness that that I’m writing to inform you of the passing of Phil Lambert.
Phil was Nine Melbourne’s longest-serving staff member, until his retirement in 2019.
He joined GTV9 just a few months before man first walked on the moon, back in July of 1969.
During his time at Nine, Phil worked with some of the biggest names in television, including Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Don Lane, Ernie Sigley, Denise Drysdale, Pete Smith, Eddie McGuire, Peter Hitchener and, of course, Daryl Somers.
It was on Hey Hey it’s Saturday that Phil became known to a generation of Australians as ‘Lucky Phil’.
Phil spent most of his career in the camera department, but also spent time working in staging and as a floor manager.
