Alan William was Born on February 5, 1954, at Kingstanding, Birmingham, England. By profession, he was a former Speedway rider. He was bought up with motorcycles, inspired by his dad Archie, a keen sidecar scrambler; young Grahame was riding in scramble meetings at the age of 12.

He finished runner-up to his brother Andy Grahame in the 1982 British Speedway Championship.
